Developer Ursa Software came up with the WinStitch application to meet the design creation needs of cross-stitch enthusiasts. Combining numerous powerful features with ease of use, the WinStitch application can be used to create cross-stitch, tapestry, beadwork, knitting, and other designs. There are multiple built-in templates to choose from and on top there’s the option to import images (you can create a cross-stitch design from one of your photos).

The WinStitch installation file is of 16.7MB. The application can be installed on any Windows edition from Windows 2000 up to Windows. A setup wizard will guide you through the uncomplicated installation process and you will be done in little time. It must be mentioned that Ursa Software has a Mac version to offer as well; it is called MacStitch.

When you run WinStitch you are presented with a window that basically asks you what to do: start a new design, open recent design, import an image via the image import wizard, choose between various templates, or access the Help file. The interface is very similar to what you would expect to get from a powerful photo editor. The design you’re working on is presented in a large pane in the middle and the buttons for the main functions are at the top.

Creating all sorts of designs using the built-in templates is quite nice. All the tools you need are right there and understanding how to use them is not very difficult. But the ace up WinStitch’s sleeve is that it lets you import your own images and use them for your designs. You could use a family photo, for example, to come up with a cross-stitch design. When you’re done working on your design, you can print it out or export it as a PDF, PNG, or another format of the many supported ones.

By using the demo version you can open, view and print sample charts and free charts, but you cannot save your work. After you evaluate the application by using the demo version, you can get a license for one of the three WinStitch editions: Lite, Standard and Premium.

Creating cross-stitch, tapestry, or beadwork designs is what WinStitch helps you do. It is a powerful, professional, and properly good tool to have by your side.

Pros

Simple installation process; can be installed on just about any Windows version (and there’s a Mac version as well). Numerous built-in templates to choose from. Import and use your own images. Come up with good looking cross-stich, tapestry, beadwork, knitting, and other designs. Print or export your design as PNG, PDF, and other formats. There are three WinStitch editions to choose from.

Cons

The demo version does not let you save your designs.
